Boston String Players is an ensemble of student and young professional musicians who collaborate with upcoming visual and performing artists, and perform innovative concert programs that intertwine established classical pieces with contemporary and novel compositions of non-classical genres, often featuring the first-time performance of a new composition. The group offers a professional and collaborative music-making experience for fresh Boston-area talents, and encourages a broadening of the scope of classical music performance. BSP actively promotes spontaneous exchange between conductor, performer, and audience during concerts, and encourages direct audience feedback. The group strives to make classical music more accessible to a broader audience by holding interactive open rehearsals and delivering concerts that are casual and fun.
Founded in 2007 by artistic director and conductor Motoki Tanaka, BSP performers include recent alumni and current students of music conservatories, fine arts schools, and public and private universities in the greater Boston area. To continue to grow and develop in the diverse cultural hub that is Boston, the group relies on the help and support of a community of friends and fellow arts patrons and music lovers. BSP is always open to accepting help with securing venues for concerts, advertising and publicity management, transportation, and securing basic necessities such as music stands, scores and parts, and rehearsal venues. We thank our past, present and future patrons for their commitments and support, without which BSP could not continue to thrive.
